FAN MAIL
Hey Ned,
How you doing? Been trying to put some quiet time aside to really listen to your c.d.'s
(can't stand music in the background!)What can I say...wow! What a sound dude! All round,
can't fault it. Fully formed, top, bottom and mid range...horns are red hot... gutsy solos
and top arrangements (can't keep our one sax player in tune!)Excellent rhythm
section...grooves go on sitting in the pocket throughout...guitar fills and solos all
stunning, understated and in the right bloody places! Authentic, old school hammond
and piano. And the vocals...every one of them a master in their own way and yet the
best part for me is the male vocal harmonies behind it all...man these are (no bullshit)
easily as good as the originals...and unless you knew it you'd swear this was a seminal black soul/blues/r&b band. I can see(hear) why you've been so successful with the punters...you've
got every base covered!  Anyway, before I turn into a sychophantic snake!  Do you play 'Change Gonna Come' in 3/4 or 6/8? I'm not very good with these things but could never figure out what Sam Cooke's original version was in. Any idea?    Keep it up amigo. Are you busy these days?

From: Judy Adams New Orleans Blues Singer Widow
Ned,
This was a sad day for me when hereing news of Lil Alfred passing. He was very special to us. When Johnny died he made several visits to my home in Baton Rouge to comfort me, and my five year old daughter. I made a beautiful portfolio for him as a special foot bio; with musical write upset present when booking shows. This was created by me for him for showing his love for the musical family. I know he felt my great loss, and my daughter and I feel the heart filled lost, and we are still in shock, and grieving also with your lost of him. Try and keep his music alive. I hope Johnny will see him up there. Special love to the music family. Please give Warren Storm our deep condolence
Judy Adams
Judy, this is Ned Theall.  I hired Alfred to play with the Boogie Kings in 1967.  We had been close friends for many years and did many shows together.  Thank you for your beautiful letter.  I will certainly pass it on the Warren and other friends of Alfred.  The Boogie Kings began to play Johnny's music shortly after Alfred joined the group.  I Won't Cry was my personal favorite, and also Reconsider Me.  I was stunned when I heard it on the radio.  Johnny Adams was revered by all musicians, all over the world.  His talent, his gift, and his legacy will never be forgotten.
Peace and Love,
Ned Theall

Hello Ned,
The two albums of The Fabulous BOOGIE KINGS, "Walking the Dog" and "Never Go Away"
have reached us OK, thanks. The music is superlative, very well built, with a great homogeneity
of the group's play. Because you play and sing with pleasure, the listener enjoys also.
That's the real Louisiana Music !
My playlist as soon as possible

Dear Boogie Kings,
Just wanted to write really quick and let you all know what a wonderful website you all have.
My husband and I really enjoy your music. We had followed the band many years back and
recently started going to your shows again.  What memories it brings back.  While the players
are not all the same the same sound always comes alive and brings me back to my old days
in high school. What good times they were.  We caught the Port Arthur gig a couple of weeks
ago but missed your "hidden surprise" in Little Mark.  What an addition to the ongoing legacy
of the Boogie Kings.  He is a courteous young man and truly very talented.  I just couldn't believe
how he handled himself like the stage was meant for him.  Last night he explained to us that he
is pretty much on all the shows but was in Branson during the Port Arthur gig.  Our favorite set
was "The King Brothers" (the young ones!) What a combination of players and vocalists you have!
Second to none in our books.

Once again,
Superb show!

Ned,
I got a copy of your new CD and I must say I had only heard clips from your web site until now.
After listening to it in my car  with the volume cranked up and the feel of the bass in my bones,
its really very good with great horn arrangements. The Old Rugged Cross is the the best version
I have ever heard and whoever sang that surely has a place reserved in heaven.

L. Nugent
Gregg Martinez is the singer.
